Members of the Kalanchoe genus are mostly native to tropical Africa and Madagascar, and is in the crassula family. Most kalanchoes are small succulent shrubs, although there are trailing and vining ones, and some that are treelike. Many have bright, showy, tubular flowers, usually blooming in midwinter. Kalanchoes can't endure freezing temperatures, growing outdoors . They make good indoor container plants as long as they get enough light and you use a well-draining potting mix. Kalanchoe, like many succulent members of the crassula family, develops brighter colors in its leaves during winter. When variegations occur, white areas take on a pink or rose tinge if the plant is in full sun.
